It is not known how long he has been 'alive', but he has lived for over a thousand years. Mumm-Ra, The Ever Living rules over Third Earth and when evil appears on the planet, he creates terror. That was until two mysterious spaceship shows up.
On one of those ships are the ThunderCats, having just escaped the destruction of their planet, Thundera. When the ThunderCats build the Cat's Lair and take up residence on Third Earth Mumm-Ra becomes quite angry; especially when the ThunderCats start helping those he has ruled for so long.
The second ship, the Mutants, was what caused him to react in the first place. He was resting in his stone coffin until the Mutants arrived. Mumm-Ra wants to get rid of the Thundercats and means he can while at the same time not soil his own hands.
After many attempts of trying to get rid of the Thundercats and failing, Mumm-Ra learns that he has to soil his hands and even then he fails too. Mumm-Ra has patience though, surprisingly, that he will one day find a way to rid himself of the ThunderCats.
One of his many ways of trying to get rid of the ThunderCats is trickery. He will disguise himself through his main source of power which is 'Ancients Spirits of Evil'. Through the power, he disguised himself in many different people.
