There's a lot of confusion in how long it took the Thundercats to reach Third Earth, our Earth. There's no real explanation to this, maybe the writers didn't do a large research on Thundercats to explain why things happened. I know today's animators/writers they do extensive research before putting the show on TV. I don't know if this as a fact but as an assumtion. Cartoons in the 80's don't go into detail of where they are and how they got to where they are. In today's cartoons, there has have been lots of research to give the show a more believable outline like Gargoyles and Batman, even Sailor Moon must have had a lot of research done.
But that's not the point and I went right off the point, big time. Oh well. In Thundercats some people say it took the Thundercats centuries to reached Third Earth but how long did it take them? It's known that it was years because Lion-O went from a boy to a man during his trip.
If you were to mix Star Trek (24 century) with Thundercats and say that Thundera is in the Alpha Quadrant, you get a real good explanation. When the Royal cruiser was attacked by the Mutants, what if the Mutants destroyed their capablity of going to warp. That would mean it would take the Thundercats years maybe even centuries to get to Third Earth.
It's never been said where Thundera was located and how long it took them to reach Third Earth also I honestly don't think it took too too long to get to Earth because Jaga piloted the ship until he died which was not long before crashing on the planet. Jaga was basically an old man when Thundera was destroyed and he died of old age on the Royal ship.
During their trip to Earth, it took years. But when the Feliner was built and New Thundera was reformed, it now only takes the Thundercats six hours to travel from one planet to another.
The big factor here is "Warp capability". That is my theory. If they had warp capability that would explain why they're able to get from one planet to another in a matter of hours. And without warp, it can take years.
