It's said on the web that the writers screwed up in Panthro's lines when he called gold 'junk' in "All That Glitters" when Gold is one of the best natural conductors of electricity. In fact some computer chips have small amounts of gold because of this fact. Gold's inability to corrode also makes it an excellent thing to plate electrical connectors that will be used in somewhat corrosive environments, or that require as good a connection as it is possible.
When Panthro says to Tygra "We had nothing like it on Thundera", it basically implies that the Thundercats don't realize it's potential and good usage.
Before now, I never knew it could be used as a source of electricity, so that would indicate neither did the Thundercats.
